The Salish Sea Ballet presents: Firebird

“The Firebird” is a ballet that tells the enchanting story of a princess, who, with the help of a magical Firebird, battles the evil sorcerer Kashchei to rescue cursed maidens and restore peace. Composed by Igor Stravinsky, this ballet premiered in 1910 and is based on Russian folklore. The ballet features a blend of magical elements and themes of bravery and redemption.
Join a princess on her quest to find the mythical golden apple tree in an enchanted garden. She discovers the tree in the evil sorcerer Kaschei’s garden and meets the magical Firebird, who gifts her a feather for help in danger. While befriending cursed maidens who dance with golden apples, the princess faces Kastchei in a duel. Using the feather, she summons the Firebird, who reveals the location of Kastchei’s immortal soul in a golden egg. Cracking the egg frees those under Kastchei’s spell and puts him into eternal sleep, allowing the enchanted world to disintegrate and the creatures to regain their humanity.
