Once giants of the carboniferous period\, learn about how they have become the “canaries of the coal mine” when it comes to wetland health today. \n\n\n\nAbout the Mottola Life Estate\n\n\n\nThis nearly 11-acre private property is located just Southeast of Lopez Village. It is part of a 26-acre property that was short platted in the 1980’s. Prior to that it was undeveloped land. The pond on this property is part of a chain of man-made ponds and wetlands that begin on the properties to the east and drain to the west-southwest into Fisherman Bay. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n🥾 What to Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing\, sturdy footwear\, and a water bottle. \n\n\n\n📍Meeting Location: We will meet at Lopez Village and carpool out to Mottola Life Estate\, Lopez Island. \n\n\n\n⚠️ Important to Note:\n\n\n\nRegistration is limited to 20 people. All participants must sign an SJPT liability waiver (available in English or Español) as part of the registration process. \n\n\n\nSite Conditions: The south side of the property has an incline\, while the rest of the estate is relatively flat with level footing. We will be exploring around a pond and other areas that might lead to potential soggy sock situations.
